Winter 2025 Grant - General Arts
In 1888, Roslyn, Washington saw its largest-ever influx of Black residents when 300 miners, recruited from the South to break a strike, unknowingly entered a volatile situation. With participation from their descendants, we will produce a cinematic dramatization of their untold story that will honor their legacy. We feel this project is important because, after sharing this story on our YouTube channel Traveling While Black, we discovered lingering misconceptions about the miners' role in the strike. By giving voice to their perspective, we aim to provide historical clarity, preserve their legacy, and foster greater understanding.
